Skär med Norrhavet bakom sig. Geta.

We took a trip up to northern Geta one day in mid-September.

After a short walk we came to the cliffs and could look out over the Norrhavet. But it was not possible to see so far because a whitish fog swept everything into a mysterious light. Everything felt white instead of the blue-green tone of the sea.

I’m not happy with the sharpness of the images but it may be because I forgot to turn off the VR function when I now used a tripod. Or was it the other way around, that I forgot to turn on the VR function when I took pictures freehand! Have not fully explored whether there is a difference either, but the scholars say so!

One thing I tested was to put together two pictures to highlight the horizon and not get too dark rock. The two pictures below I have put together to get the big picture under them.

GIMP manipulated photo of cliffs at Geta, The Åland Islands.

I used GIMP and tested the extension G’MIC’s ability to deselect a color and replace it with another layer. Find it on this video:

Unfortunately, the fog eased and the light became more blue than white. However, the mood did not disappear as clearly. The sounds that are muffled by the fog or the silence that is when the sea is not moving and the wind is absent. The feeling of loneliness and the silent grandeur of nature.

Most of the pictures have got a toss of Tone Mapping in Raw Therapee. Thought it was nice to get a harder, more detailed surface on the rocks together with the softer fog.

The picture of the motorboat finally attracted me to test different visual styles in GIMP. Worked with different filters in layers to see what happened. So this blog post ends with a few different variations on the sea and the motorboat!
