The different lights of the blue hour.

Jag tog mig ut till Lumparlands nordligaste udde för att se hur fyren där såg ut och det blev en resa i det sista ljuset på dagen.

I went out to Lumparland’s northernmost headland to see what the lighthouse there looked like and it was a trip in the last light of the day.

Molnen ligger, som vanligt denna vinter, tjocka över himlen. Ingen struktur eller form på dem, utan bara ett kompakt tak i grått. Som tur var så hade lite snö fallit, så att en viss kontrast i alla fall finns på marken.

Jag går ner till vattnet och spanar ut över Lumparns gråa yta. Lite kluckande vågor slår mot klipporna, men ingen vind att tala om. Knäpper ihop jackan mot kylan, för att förbereda mig på att stå mer still, i vänta på att kameran ska hinna få in tillräckligt med ljus.

The clouds are, as usual this winter, thick over the sky. No structure or shape on them, just a compact grey roof. Luckily, some snow had fallen, so that a certain contrast is at least on the ground.

I go down to the water and look out over Lumparn’s grey surface. A little gurgling waves hit the rocks, but no wind to speak of. Fastens the jacket against the cold, to prepare me to stand still, waiting for the camera to get enough light.

Scenariot börja i grått, men när jag krånglar mig fram över klipporna mot själva udden och fyren, övergår ljuset mer mot gråblått.

Försöker förutse var jag kanske vill ta en bild, för att inte sätta mina fotspår i snön, mitt i det som var tänkt att vara orört och stilla.

Själva fyren var inte så anslående, men isen som bildats på udden, var mer imponerande och inbjöd mig till krypande på knäna och plaskande i det kalla vattnet. Bra med vattentäta kängor!

The scenario starts in gray, but when I struggle over the rocks towards the cape and the lighthouse itself, the light changes more to gray-blue.

Trying to predict where I might want to take a picture, so as not to put my footprints in the snow, in the middle of what was meant to be untouched and still.

The lighthouse itself was not so striking, but the ice that formed on the headland was more impressive and invited me to crawl on my knees and splash in the cold water. Good with waterproof boots!

Utforskade strandlinjen, men mer åt öster tog klipporna slut och trots det tjocka molntäcket, så trängde solens sista ljus igenom molnen där borta i väster och skapade någon sorts kontrast till det gråblå landskapet.

När solens ljus var helt borta, tog ljusen från Mariehamn över. Det skapade en illusion av att solen fortfarande jobbade där borta i horisonten, på min sista bild på turen, vilket är det översta bilden i denna blogg.

Så nu har förnattens blå ljus tagit över innan det blir svart natt. Natt och natt förresten. Sista bilden tar jag 17:01, innan jag kryssar mig ner mellan tallar och klippskrevor till bilen i det tilltagande mörkret.

Explored the shoreline, but further east the cliffs ended and despite the thick cloud cover, the last light of the sun penetrated the clouds over there in the west and created some kind of contrast to the grey-blue landscape.

When the sun’s light was completely gone, the lights from Mariehamn took over. It created the illusion that the sun was still working over there on the horizon, in my last picture of the trip, which is the top picture in this blog.
So now the blue light of night has taken over before it becomes black night. Night and night by the way. I take the last picture at 17.01, before I cross between pines and crevices to the car in the increasing darkness.
